Robot EDGAR from the Vrchlabí Grammar School Has Celebrated His First Birthday — and Placed the Candle on the Cake Himself!
The collaborative robot named Edgar has celebrated his first year at the Krkonoše Grammar School and Secondary Vocational School in Vrchlabí. In December 2023 we acquired him, together with the Hradec Králové Region, as the first sign of our joint memorandum. Edgar is the very first industrial robot in the Czech Republic to make his way into a school of general education.
The name Edgar was voted on by the local students themselves, who use him to learn the basics of programming and robotics — skills that will prove valuable in a rapidly evolving economic and technological landscape. Edgar has become a symbol of an approach in which technology is not merely part of the curriculum but also a tool for inspiration and creativity beyond school. Students often spend time with the robot during breaks and outside lessons, so he has become their new — if rather unconventional — classmate 😊
Edgar quickly became known not only to fellow students but also to pupils at the primary school in Vrchlabí and to the local community, and he is used during after-school activities and clubs. The robot was also a great success at the local edition of the Maker Faire Czech Republic festival, where he captivated visitors with his abilities and showed how technology can enrich the educational process.
And what's next for Edgar? Getting more girls involved in working with the robot, or using him for other creative activities — perhaps in art classes.
So here's to many more years, Edgar!
