Strategic Partnership with Charles University

Biomass is generally considered one of the renewable energy sources. But how can we ensure that its use is truly sustainable and does not threaten the stability of our landscape?

The Škoda Auto Endowment Fund has signed a memorandum of cooperation with Charles University and the Charles University Endowment Fund. Together, we are launching a research project that will provide precise data on the impact of energy biomass production on the health of forest ecosystems.

The transition to low-carbon energy is an essential step for all of our futures. However, this process must not come at the expense of the stability of natural ecosystems or the loss of the most valuable things that forests provide us.

From Declarations to Measurable Reality

The goal of this newly launched collaboration is not to produce theoretical study that will end up on a library shelf. Our aim is to obtain concrete data and practical recommendations. These will help ensure that the intensive use of biomass for energy purposes does not lead to the degradation of forest soil and the loss of biodiversity. We believe that bringing together industry, science, and philanthropy can help demonstrate that sustainability is not just a declaration, but a measurable reality.

Scientific Monitoring Directly in the Field

One of our first joint projects will be the scientific monitoring of forests producing biomass for energy use. The research will track the impacts of forest management on forest ecosystems and contribute to a better understanding of how to balance the use of natural resources with the protection of biodiversity, water retention in the landscape, and other forest functions.
